Redgills as a shore bass lure

Posted by Lure Fishing for Bass on 10th Aug 2014

For casting and drifting from the shore in the fast currents of harbour and tidal river mouths the Lure Fishing for Bass meetup members are finding Redgills very effective. Sometimes even superior to more expensive lures such as Fiiish and Savagear Sandeels.

Just as salmon take flies almost drifted naturally in fast rivers, bass do also seem to like light plastics fished mid-water almost at the same speed as the tide. On a trip last week a 16g blue and white Redgill drifted mid-water proved as effective as a 40g Fiiish. The Fiiish fished deeper and a few got snagged, while no Redgills where lost. So the old school Redgill is not only proving as effective as Fiiish when fished from the shore but also much cheaper due to the cost per lure as less lures being lost.

Most of the Lure Fishing for Bass meetup members have rejected the humble Redgill in favour of more modern and cool bass lures. Well, now due to their consistent catch rates even the tackle tarts have started using them.
