Four of us headed out lure fishing for bass today and had a fair amount of success catching bass with plugs, metal and shads in shallow and deep water.

A top water competition was suggested and the four of us selected our surface bass lures of choice. Three competitors selected their tried and tested IMA Salt Skimmers in a variety of colours and one selected a Xorus Frosty Sandeel.

Drifting over sand and weed on the ebbing tide in water between 1m > 2m deep the competition began. In the next 40 minutes the first, second, third, four, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth bass all fell for the Xorus Frosty Sandeel. Yes that really happened, a single competitor vs three and the first nine bass fell for the Xorus Frosty Sandeel.

I won’t be making the same mistake twice. Time to make some room in the lure box of a Xorus Frosty Sandeel.
