Jigging for Bass
Posted by Lure Fishing For Bass on 9th Sep 2014
What follows is an overview of what to expect if you join one of the Lure Fishing for Bass Jigging for Bass trips.
Who: These trips are suitable for those with some lure fishing experience, wanting to catch large bass on weighted soft plastic lures.
Boat: We fish from tried and tested charter boats that can take between 6 to 10 anglers.
Marks: Sandbanks, reefs and rocky drop offs. Fishing depth is between 10m to 30m.
The Bass:The average bass on these trips is about 4lb with bigger bass getting caught on most trips.
Other Species: Bass are the target, but mackerel, pollack and wrasse can also be caught at some of the marks.
Lures: We look for very fast and deep water so having a variety of heavy shad lures between 40g-60g-100g depending on the tidal flow and the diameter of your braid. Fiiish Black Minnow and the old school Redgill style rigs also work.
We will offer advice on techniques if needed.
Tackle Hire:We don’t rent tackle as our trips are aimed at people with at least some lure fishing experience.
Clothing: The boats have cabins so you can always take cover from the rain. If you don’t want the weather to stop you fishing a waterproof hooded coat and waterproof trousers are wise. It’s always colder as sea than on land so please bring extra layers. Sunglasses, sun cream and a hat will be needed even on overcast days.
Safety: The biggest risk is getting hooked when unhooking bass or by someone else casting. We will guide you on how to cast safely and recommend barbless hooks if ever casting overhead. As we are jigging almost all the time you’ll just be dropping the lure down.
Storage: Bring as much gear as you want as these boats are big.
Disclaimer: By attending these trips you agree the organiser has no liability related to any injury or tackle damage during or related to this bass fishing trip. Including but not limited to drowning, slipping, getting cold, being hooked, cut or other accident.
Photography: Lure Fishing for Bass will unless requested, take photos and potentially use those images on our blog or social media. You may request any images to be removed.
Fun: Laughing and banter and not compulsory, but advised.
