IMA Komomo Rip Off?

Posted by Lure Fishing for Bass on 19th Jul 2014

The IMA Komomo has been a must have shallow diving lure for a few years now but at £18 each are they a rip off? I asked myself is this a go to lure because of the quality finish and IMA marketing. Is it really worth so much?

So this morning the 17 th Nov, two of us decided to put the IMA Komomo (£18) to the test against its cheaper imitators (£7) from the north shore of Chichester Harbour.

First cast was just before six and it was still too dark to see which lure was which. Someone attached the lures in the picture one after the other without me knowing if I had an IMA or one of the imitators on. I fished each for fifteen minutes but knew which ones I preferred on the first cast. As I suspected it was the IMAs. They had a much better action and vibration.

So far IMA was ahead on quality and action but how about at catching bass. Would the bass care? We headed to a shallow sand and shingle mark just before 07:30 and decided to alternate between the IMA Komomo and the imitators with 30 minutes on each. This was the fifth time we had fished this mark and three of the first four trips had resulted in small bass so we had high hopes.

In the following two hours the IMA Komomo took seven little bass and the cheaper imitators just two.

So is the IMA Komomo worth £11 more than a very similar lure? Yes this morning it certainly was but I feel more testing is required.
