Shallow Freak

A technique for fishing soft lures over shallow ground which is similar in many ways to spinning with a bombardier and fly for sea trout, is using a Japanese rubber bubble float called a Shallow Freak. This allows you to set the lure at a depth which puts lures in range while reducing the risk of losing lures over rough ground.

We know from drifting in boats that when tidal velocity is at it’s highest fish will hang behind structure waiting for bait fish to be washed past. The Shallow Freak is a way for the shore angler to try and replicate the same natural presentation of a lure as shown below.
