Megabass Zonk 120, Colour: GG Iwashi
The Megabass Zonk is a slow-sinking minnow with a thin glass fibre diving lip. If you fish with braid you can feel the effect this lip has on the action of the lure right up the line and through to your rod, in a fast current or with a fast retrieve the vibration is quite intense. The action from this slow sinking lure is a high pitch tight roll and because it dives to more than a meter (nearly 2m) it’s stable in choppy water. The Megabass Zonk is quite a wide bodied minnow, this is because it has a powerful movable double tungsten ball bearing casting system which helps you reach decent distances despite it’s relatively light weight of 21g. A further feature of the Zonk is a water port in the top of the body this is meant to create a water displacement that Bass can detect, I presume with their lateral line.

You can see the water port on the top of the lure.
If I have the depth of water in front of me the Zonk is often the first lure I put on, it’s a go to lure for me in the dark on those early starts whilst waiting for the first signs of dawn, I think it’s the vibration that you feel through the rod that gives you confidence that a bass is going to locate your lure with out the benefit of day light.

The top of the GG Iwashi has that purple to blue paint that I associate with TVR cars, it’s colour changes depending on angle.
There’s no need to to work the lure, a simple retrieve does the business, vary the speed from dead slow to a speed where you feel the vibration really kick in. You can work it with a steady retrieve followed by a couple of draws, follow this with a pause, don’t forget it’s a sinking lure so often the hit can come as the lure sinks back. The build quality of the Zonk is great and even the fibre diving lip is surprisingly strong, a worthwhile addition to anyones lure box.

Also available is the Megabass Zonk 77, not pictured.

Zonk 120 GG Cruising-Blue, despite heavy use the finish is quite resilient, this one could do with some new trebles.
