IMA Komomo SF 125

IMA Komomo SF 125 – #KM125-220
For some reason I’ve never bothered trying the Komomo until now, why you may ask, well maybe because I love the Komomo II and thought what’s the point, I’ve got the newer version, it must be better. Well it’s not as simple as that, the Komomo and the Komomo II are different lures, yes they are similar in what they do hence the shared name but the Komomo is a bit of a classic plug.
Weighing 16g with a double tungsten ball bearing casting system and no diving lip the Komomo cast really well. With a simple straight retrieve you get a tight rolling and wobbling action which looks good even when winding very slowly. Simply lift your rod tip whilst retrieving and the Komomo will swim just below the surface, it’s a great lure for shallow rough ground.

Sebile Magic Swimmer – Soft 130
October 18, 2010
Sebile Magic Swimmer – Soft, SP25-Electric Rainbow
The Magic Swimmer Soft has an action to die for, to be honest on a straight retrieve it swims so well that it doesn’t really look like an injured bait fish. You get three in a pack with a custom hook already inserted into one, it’s a great quality hook and the idea is that once you have worn out one bait, you just chuck it and insert the hook into another one. There are hook holes in the bait so rigging is easy and a slot in the top to conceal the point of the hook so it works well in weedy areas, though suspended weed will still collect on the nose. You also get small rubberised weights to slide onto the hook, by mixing the amount you can adjust the weight of the lure and also by positioning the weights forward or towards the back of the hook you can effect how it swims and dives.

ima BarbarossA

ima BarbarossA, colour #010 Horse Mackerel
The ima BarbarossA is another lipless fluttering style minnow but with a slight difference, it does have some action on a steady retrieve. Unlike a lot of similar style baits this lure has an inline diving vane which I presume helps produce it’s slalom swimming action. Put in some twitches and you can see this lure come to life, though as ever, it’s all about what happens when you stop winding, as it sinks you get that fluttering, rolling and flashing action that seems to really encourage bass to hit.
I’ve already tried this lure on the open shore and right enough I caught a small bass on the third cast. What I’m really waiting for though is to try it in an estuary with a strongish current. The technique that ima claims this lure excels at is to cast it out into the flow, as the current takes it you get the sinking, fluttering, rolling and flashing action, then once it hits bottom or has descended as far as you dare start retrieving to bring it back towards the surface, then all you need to do is repeat, what they like to call “send it, drift it & sink it”.
Despite not having a casting system this lure really flies, helped undoubtedly by it’s heavy weight compared to it’s size, it has internal rattles and the finish looks really good though after limited use I can already see signs of treble wear.

Length: 120mm Weight: 33g Dives: Sinking Hooks: ST-46

Daiwa morethan X-cross 120SSR-F

Daiwa morethan X-cross 120SSR-F
The Daiwa morethan X-cross 120 SSR-F is a very shallow swimming floating minnow. On a simple retrieve it has a wide wobbling action just beneath the surface, it swims so close to the surface that you can see the wake it creates. After a pause it will initially swim across the surface, before settling into it’s action, creating a subtle disturbance and leaving a trace of bubbles.
Internally the X-Cross features Daiwa’s unique sliding maglock system, this system has sliding casting weights controlled by magnets to optimize casting performance, sounds good but in reality it’s not the best casting lure, though I’ve used much worse, I would class it as an average caster.
In terms of use it’s a lot like a Feed Shallow or even an IMA Komomo 2, though their actions are different, if you have marks where you need an extremely shallow running lure it’s worth a try.
