Lure fishing for Bass
Welcome to my website and blog for lure fishing for European Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)
Tough going…
June 28, 2010
Had a couple of trips out last week, conditions weren’t ideal but I was keen to get out and enjoy the sunshine. I managed the three pounder above, I don’t know why but some bass just seem to have so much fight in them compared to others, this little fellow got top marks for effort a real fighter.
The following day I meet up with my mate Tony and we headed out to a spot we hadn’t fished before, we where on a tip off and we weren’t disappointed, the sea was alive with feeding mullet, we waded out and where completely surrounded by swirls, jumps and splashes. It’s a known fact that bass will swim with mullet and we must of managed 10 bass each, all small but good fun all the same. The bigger fish didn’t turn up that night but I’m sure I’ll be back to check out this spot again.

Our final session of the week found us at a familiar mark and despite the East winds we thought we’d give it a go, better than sitting inside on a beautiful day. As expected the fishing was hard going but it was a pleasant surprise when Tony hooked into a bass.
My next report will hopefully be from a little trip to Dorset I have planned, weather permitting.

Hi Jon
I’ve tried the Magic Swimmer soft plastic and I have to say I like it, though I only tested it early this season when there where no bass around so will have to give it another go. Like most weedless lures though they only really work well combating fixed growing weed and not floating and suspended weed, though they are better than plugs.
Sounds like the Slugo’s are working well for you, 47 in one session is good going. I’ll put up some thoughts on the Magic Swimmer in the near future.
Cheers
Joe
I love the Patchinko, if you look in the photos section under Kent you can see loads of picc of bass I caught last year on the Patchinko and there’s a few thoughts on it here:
