November weather

They say a bad days fishing is better than a good day at work so with that in mind, despite not perfect weather, I was up and out of bed at 3.30am and heading off to Weymouth to meet up with Mark Padfield.

November can be a great month for bass fishing with lures, though you do need the weather to be on your side and considering that large Atlantic depressions tend to take control of the weather at this time of year finding the right conditions can be a challenge.

At first light conditions were not to bad and getting up at that ungodly hour was a distant memory when on my third cast I connected with a bass off the top on a Z-Claw. A quick picture, release, cast and bang another one landed, another quick pic and release and you guessed it number three was landed, obviously feeling left out and wanting to get his face on film.

After a great start, things slowed and we formulated a plan which involved getting some breakfast first. After some scoff we where faced with more shingle yomping and never wanting to pass up on an opportunity I bribed a guy who was just landing his rib to shoot us along the coast to our intended mark.

Fed and rested we were keen to get into some bass, but conditions where getting worse by the minute, the wind really blowing now and the sea responding with increasing anger it was time to head somewhere sheltered, but not before I landed bass no 4 on the Tide Minnow 175 flyer.

We hit the sheltered mark as the sun was going down and I landed another bass on the Z-Claw drifted in the current. It was now fairly cold and time to call it a day. No big bass today but still great fun and as ever it’s always a pleasure to fish with Mark on the amazing Dorset coast.
