Lure fishing for Bass
Welcome to my website and blog for lure fishing for European Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)
July, not bad for a few trips…
July 31, 2010
What a hook up, I wish all my hook ups where as clean as this. I caught this three pounder in some quite dirty water just after high tide, pushed right up against a chalk cliff, this spot often produces bass and I wasn’t disappointed when this bass flashed at my lure beneath my feet, a little twitch of the lure and he swung around and smashed it right there in front of me, I’m truly in awe of the shear speed and aggression bass will hit a lure.
Anyway much to my annoyance I haven’t been able to go fishing as much as I would like during July, but I can hardly complain because I started the month off with a great session down in Dorset.

Mark and I managed 47 bass between the 2 of us to 6lb 8oz over two days, 23 where over 3lb pushing four and some quite a bit bigger.

Lures that worked best for me where the Megabass Zonk 120 Gataride Yoro-Yoro in HT Sayori, the Duo Tide Minnow Slim 175 Flyer, Colour No. A51-SH and the Zenith Z-Claw in mullet.
A 5lb 7oz for me.
A 6lb 8oz for Mark

Conditions where lovely and cloudy and whilst the night before it had been the Z-Claw that had done all the damage and the Tide Minnow 175 Flyer in the morning it was the Gataride that really impressed, once you got the lure in the zone the bass where slashing and smashing them with abandon.
The bass where hitting the lures, possibly with there flanks so hook ups didn’t always hold, we both lost a couple of fish. One particular bass bent my rod right over, what a hit, the drag screamed as line was stripped from my reel but moments later nothing, not to worry it wasn’t long before I landed another. Sessions like this don’t come along too often, the stamp of fish was great and they where fighting hard, one to remember for sure.

Back in Kent I had to make do with a few quick sessions, the first resulting in 5 bass to 3lb 7oz, once again the Gataride this time in Pearl Rainbow did the business.
My next and final outing of the month didn’t develop into the session it promised with the early three pounder below, I still picked up another bass but conditions deteriorated, the water coloured and I was literally blown off the mark. But I was happy to have got a few and happy to have landed another bass on the Daiwa morethan X-cross 120SSR-F.
