2013 the year of exotic species

If you follow sea fishing forums you’ll be aware that 2013 has resulted in lots of unusual or never before seen species being caught around the UK coast.

  • Aug 2013: Swordfish caught in a net off Newcastle.
  • Aug 2013: Mako shark off Wales.
  • Aug 2013: Barracuda off Dorset.
  • Aug 2013: Tuna once again spotted near Chesil beach.
  • Aug 2013: Bonito caught south of the Isle of Wright.
  • Aug 2013: Striped bass from a pier in Dover.
  • Sept 2013: Sturgeon caught off the Kent coast by kids on a sausage.
  • Sept 2013: Skipjack tuna found alive but beached as it tried to swim up the tidal River Otter in Devon.
  • Sept 2013: 515lb rod caught Bluefin tuna off Scotland.
