Duo Custom Press Bait Saira
December 29, 2009

Duo Custom Press Bait Saira, colour code: A-32
The Duo Custom Press Bait Saira appears to be very similar to a Tide Minnow 175 Flyer in looks and profile minus one very important feature, it has no diving bib. Cleverly Duo have designed this lure with all the weight along the bottom and sealed air cavities, to counteract the weight, along the top. This low centre of gravity is meant to produce the slalom action. I’m keen to give this one a try, at 50g with the right rod, I’m sure it will cast miles and I’m hoping it’s going to be a goto lure for deep marks when there’s a swell and onshore wind.
I know just where I’m going to try this lure, it’s not going to be a lure for a simple retrieve, I’m sure it will need to be worked but I think it could be a winner. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Gamakatsu Assist 58 Double, size 1/0 and 2/0
Assist hooks come as singles and doubles, they work great for additional hooking points on lures, below I’ve attached a Gamakatsu Assist 58 Double 2/0 to the front hook point on a Duo Press Bait HD. These really can make the difference between just getting a hit and actually hooking into a bass.

Duo Custom Press Bait Fusion, Colour No. A-16 SH
The Duo Custom Press Bait Fusion on first look resembles a spoon, but it’s only once you see how this asymmetrical lure is constructed, that you realise it’s a little different. With a semi solid structure all the weight is positioned to one side with it’s centre of gravity to the rear, this adds to casting distance and creates the left and right tail action on a steady retrieve and enhances the rolling and fluttering action on the drop.
With it’s relatively small size but high weight (30g) I can see this being a useful lure in many situations. Interestingly it has an alternate hook position and may work well with a couple of single hooks instead of the supplied treble.

Xorus Sayori Shad
December 19, 2009

Xorus Sayori Shad, colour – left: Shirasu (3) & right: Togoro (6)
With gales in November and the early onslaught of a hard winter, with all this snow, the Bass fishing seems to be over for another year. So what to do over the winter months, well as usual I’ll be on the look out for new lures and kit for the spring when the bass fishing kicks off again. New to me is the Xorus Sayori Shad it’s a cross between a stick bait and a paddle tail. Pictured above is the 120mm version, there’s also a giant version at 160mm.
As with the Rolling Shad I’ve coupled it with the Xorus Coyotte jig head (32g with 5/0 Decoy hook) which is designed to rapidly descend through the water column, which is great if your fishing deep water in a swell where fish may well be holding on the bottom. Also I’ve shown the Sayori rigged with a Xorus Rolling jig head (3og with 5/0 Decoy hook) it’s shape is supposed to help the rolling effect of soft plastics on the drop, especially the Xorus Rolling Shad, though it looks like it would be suitable for a variety of soft plastic baits. Time will tell with this one and I hope to give you more feedback once I’ve got to use it in anger.
